Meeting of the President Xhaferi and the Director of the Dutch Constituency of the World Bank, Mr. Frank Dutch Constituency of the World Bank, Mr. Frank Heemskerk

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Talat Xhaferi met Mr. Frank Heemskerk, Executive Director at the Board of the World Bank Group, Dutch Constituency, inter alia, authorised for the Republic of Macedonia. The Meeting was in the framework of his visit to the Republic of Macedonia. 

The President Xhaferi expressed appreciation for the continuous assistance of the World Bank to the Republic of Macedonia in the past decades. The Bank is an active supporter of the reforms in the key sectors which require major financial allocations, such as transport, infrastructure, local self – governance and the future projections of the current government. 

Also, the President Xhaferi informed the guest on the current developments in the state and in the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia emphasising the strategic determination of the majority of the citizens for Membership in NATO and EU, translated into resolutions adopted by the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia since its independence. This support was once again confirmed at the recent parliamentary and local elections, providing the Government and the current majority the mandate to adopt braver decisions in the period to come. The expectations from the Macedonian side are that upon the realization of the priorities, we will receive positive Progress Report from the European Commission and full – fledged membership in NATO.

The Director Heemskerk expressing appreciation for the overall review and considering his career as Member of Parliament wished the President Xhaferi success in building wider support for the processes to come. The membership in NATO is of outmost importance for the geopolitical stability of the region and the most important benefits from the membership in EU are the achievement of the European standards which provide growth and development, above all for the benefit of all citizens. 

Considering the cooperation with the World Bank, Mr. Heemskerk informed President Xhaferi on rounding up the framework of the 2018 partnership and that the realization of the planned projects will highly determine the position of the state in the capital markets.  

The interlocutors discussed the possible future cooperation with the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, the improvement of its transparency in regard with the system of the Parliamentary TV Channel and the more active inclusion of the Members of the Committees in the Meetings held by the World Bank in Washington.
