THE DELEGATION OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA, HEADED BY PRESIDENT VELJANOSKI, AT THE OPENING OF SHANGHAI WORLD EXPO 2010

The Delegation of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, headed by President Veljanoski, today attended the opening of Shanghai World Expo 2010.

President Veljanoski also met the Vice President of the People’s Republic of China Mr. Hu Jintao, who hosted the dinner for the dignitaries present at the opening of Expo 2010. At the meeting President Veljanoski expressed appreciation for the warm welcome and expressed his conviction that the organization of Expo 2010 will repeat the success of the Beijing Olympic Games and that the People’s Republic of China will once again host the event that will mark the year.

More than 50 heads of state and governments and presidents of parliaments attended the dinner, which was followed by a spectacular programme with hundreds of renowned singers and actors from all over the world, including Andrea Bocelli and Jackie Chan. The opening ceremony was concluded with magnificent fireworks display over Shanghai that lasted 30 minutes.

Shanghai Expo 2010 will be opened until October and it is expected that it will attract around 70 million visitors from around the world. The Republic of Macedonia has a Pavilion in the form of a honeycomb, where the Macedonian tradition, culture and historical values will be presented to the world.

Tomorrow President Veljanoski will have a meeting with Mr. Xi Jinping, Vice President of the People’s Republic of China, and Mr. Han Qide, Vice-Chairman of the National People's Congress.
