PARTICIPATION OF THE DELEGATION FROM THE ASSEMBLY AT THE 21ST ANNUAL SESSION OF THE OSCE PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY

Delegation from the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, composed of Ms. Ana Pavlova Daneva - Head of Delegation, Mr. Vladimir Gjorčev and Mr. Zijadin Sela - members of the Delegation, will take part at the 21st Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly that will be held in the Principality of Monaco from 5 to 9 July 2012.

The theme of this year's Annual Session is "The OSCE: Region of Change". More than 270 parliamentarians from 50 PACE member countries are expected to participate at the event. The three OSCE PA Committees: the General Committee on Political Affairs and Security (First Committee), the General Committee on Economic Affairs, Science, Technology and Environment (Second Committee), and the General Committee on Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Questions (Third Committee), as well as the Mediterranean Forum will hold their meetings. Mr. Jean-François Robillon - Speaker of the National Council (Parliament) of the Principality of Monaco, the Minister of State of Monaco Mr. Michel Roger, Mr. Eamon Gilmore - Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland and Chairman-in-Office of OSCE PA, The President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Mr. Jean-Claude Mignon Petros Efthymiou, and the OSCE Secretary General Mr. Lamberto Zannier will address the Annual Session. The OSCE PA members will also discuss 28 supplementary items, including strengthening of the security in the OSCE region, economic recovery, military cooperation, democracy in the Arab countries, respect of human rights in countries like Belorussia, Russia and Ukraine, the situation in Moldavia and Georgia, Iran's Nuclear Programme, the OSCE cooperation with Afghanistan, promotion and use of new and renewable sources of energy etc.

Mr. Vladimir Gjorčev will present the draft-resolution on the topic: Protecting Vulnerable Populations from Human Trafficking, submitted by Congressman Christopher Smith - Head of the US Delegation to the OSCE PA. This year's meeting will include a Mediterranean Forum, with participation expected from parliamentary delegations from most OSCE Mediterranean Partners for Co-operation, including Algeria, Israel and Morocco, as well as delegations from Libya and the Palestinian National Council.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE is the parliamentary dimension of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe composed of 320 parliamentarians from the 56 participating States from Europe, Central Asia and North America. The Assembly provides a forum for parliamentary diplomacy, monitors elections, and strengthens international cooperation to uphold commitments on political, security, economic, environmental and human rights issues.
