SIGNIFICANT SUPPORT FOR THE EUROPEAN INTEGRATION PATH BY THE UNITED KINGDOM
The Parliamentary Group of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia for Cooperation with the Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland had a meeting with the Baroness D’Souzaa, Lord Speaker of the Upper House of the Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The Chair of the Group, Ms. Ermira Mehmeti; the Members: Mr. Ilija Dimovski, Mr. Haralampie Shokarovski, Mr. Goran Misovski and Ms. Stanka Anastasova; the Ambassador of the Republic of Macedonia to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, H.E. Jovan Donev, as well as the Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Christopher Ivon attended the meeting.
Ms. Ermira Mehmeti expressed appreciation for the visit and hope for continuation of the year’s long cooperation between the two countries in all areas, especially in regard with the parliamentary cooperation and the support from the United Kingdom for our EU and NATO integration.
The Baroness D’Souza expressed pleasure for the visit to the Assembly and interest for the work of the Parliamentary Group for Cooperation, their expectations, the events from 24 December; the mechanisms of the MPs to hold the Government Accountable and the decision making system in the parliamentary work.
The attendees agreed that this visit is a significant signal for the interest of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, as well as the continuous and principle support for the Republic of Macedonia.
The projects supported by the United Kingdom through its Embassy and the Westminster Foundation for Democracy for development of the democratic capacities of the Parliament are among the most significant projects in the past period.
The challenge remaining is the cooperation between the two countries is the learning of parliamentarism, pluralism and democracy in its true meaning.
