Assembly Delegation participates in the 137th Assembly of the Interparliamentary Union  

The Delegation of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia headed by the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Talat Xhaferi, MDS, participates in the 137th Assembly of the Interparliamentary Union (IPU) held in Sankt Petersburg from 14 to 18 October 2017.

The Delegation is comprised of: Mr. Jovan Mitreski, Mr. Rexhail Islaili, Ms. Julijana Nikolova, MPs and Ms. Cvetanka Ivanova, Secretary General of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia. 

About 2000 Representatives from over 150 Member States of the Union participate in the 137th Assembly of IPU, including 20 Presidents of Parliament. The focus of the debate is the promotion of the cultural pluralism, sustaining peace as mechanism for reaching sustainable development, inclusion of the private sector in the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially in the area of renewable energy, 20th Anniversary from the IPU Universal Declaration of Democracy, reaching the highest standards in healthcare through science and research etc.

In the framework of the 137th Assembly, Parity Debate on the topic: "Clipping the Wallet: Performing Surveillance for General Interest" was held and Ms. Julijana Nikolova addressed, referring to the current situation in the Republic of Macedonia and the future steps in the context of public finances. 

IPU was established in 1889 and is the oldest multilateral political organization and biggest interparliamentary association, comprised of 173 national Parliaments and 11 interparliamentary assemblies. The World organization of the parliaments located in Geneva has a status of permanent observer in the UN.
