Meeting of the President Xhaferi and the Former President of the Republic of Slovenia, Mr. Milan Kučan
The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Talat Xhaferi met the Former President of the Republic of Slovenia, Mr. Milan Kučan. The MPs and Members of the Parliamentary Group for Cooperation with the Parliament of the Republic of Slovenia, Ms. Rosina Tashevska Remenski, Ms. Shpresa Hadri and Mr. Nexhbedin Karemani attended the Meeting.
The President Xhaferi expressed pleasure from the excellent relations between the two states, and appreciation for the continuous and principle support of the Republic of Slovenia to the Republic of Macedonia for our membership in the European Union and NATO. He informed the guest on the development in the Republic of Macedonia in the past year, the adoption of the reform laws together with the opposition as part of the priorities from the 3 – 6 - 9 Plan, the ratification of the Agreement with Bulgaria and the improvement of the relations through the intensification of the talks with the Republic of Greece to surpass the name dispute.
The former President Kučan as a whiteness of the independence of the Republic of Macedonia underlined that the state, aside from the internal hurdles was faced with international ones as well, hurdles which do not depend on the good will of Macedonia, nor its efforts. In regard with the Sofia Summit, the President Kučan expressed hope that it will unblock the integration processes of the Western Balkan States which were blocked due to the deepening mainly the internal relations between the states of the Union, which should have led to accession of new members. Slovenia will always support the Republic of Macedonia in its Euro – Atlantic aspirations, especially since the state demonstrates decisiveness and fulfils its part of the tasks towards the EU and NATO, and now it is up to them to fulfil their task.
The interlocutors agreed on the importance of the excellent cooperation between the Parliaments of the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Slovenia and the need for intensification of such cooperation in the future.
