Meeting of the President of Xhaferi and Mr. Thomas Greminger, Secretary General of OSCE  

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Talat Xhaferi had a meeting had a meeting with the new Secretary General of OSCE, Mr. Thomas Greminger.  

At the Meeting, the President Xhaferi expressed appreciation for the meeting and hope that the fruitful cooperation with OSCE will continue in the future. The President expressed pleasure from the consensual adoption of the decision electing officials to the four highest positions of the Organization at the Ministerial Council held in July this year.

The President Xhaferi underlined that the Republic of Macedonia highly appreciates the role of OSCE in the democratic development of state and appreciation of the constant support of the Mission to the Republic of Macedonia as one the oldest active missions since the independence.   

He also underlined that the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia actively participates in the work of the Parliamentary Assembly of OSCE and that last October the Assembly hosted and co – organized the 15th Autumn Session of OSCE.  

The Secretary General of OSCE, Mr. Thomas Greminger expressed appreciation for the meeting with the President of the Assembly and underlined the gratitude for the participation of the Republic of Macedonia in OSCE and its structures. 

He expressed pleasure for the successful surpassing of the political crisis, enforced peaceful elections and initiation of the reform process. Mr. Greminger underlined that the establishment of strong, transparent and open institutions is essential for the stabilization of the region. 

The Meeting also referred to the events from 27 April, and the President Xhaferi expressed appreciation for the stated support of the OSCE high representatives. 

The President Xhaferi underlined that the Republic of Macedonia highly appreciates the engagement of OSCE/ODIHR for the peaceful and transparent local elections.

He underlined that regaining the oversight role of the Assembly is essential and that the activities are in direction of increasing the transparency and the openness of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia as well as regaining the trust of the citizens in the Legislative House.

The interlocutors agreed that the mutual constructive cooperation benefiting the state and the region should be deepened and intensified.
