STATEMENT FROM THE MEETING OF THE PRESIDENT XHAFERI WITH THE AMERICAN CONGRESSMAN ROBERT PITTENGER
In the framework of the participation in the International Intelligence Security Forum in Riga, the President of the Assembly of Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Talat Xhaferi today held a meeting with Mr. Robert Pittenger, American congressman and the Chairman of the Working Group on terrorism and unconventional warfare and the initiator of this Forum.
During the meeting were exchanged standpoints regarding the security issues in the region, the fight against terrorism and cybercrime, as well as on the need for a cyber defense strategy. The President of the Assembly, Mr. Xhaferi informed that the Republic of Macedonia in a close cooperation with the USA, EU and NATO is in the process of drafting the Strategy for cyber defense, which will enhance the capacities of state security. The President of the Assembly, Mr. Xhaferi underlined the willingness of the Assembly of Republic of Macedonia to be host of the International Intelligence Security Forum in the coming years, which will enable the parliamentarians, government representatives and subject matter experts to exchange more close experiences in the area of these security challenges.
Interlocutors shared mutual conviction that bilateral cooperation among the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia and the US Congress will continue to develop in a friendly and constructive way. In this context, the support of USA for the Republic of Macedonia in the plan for NATO integration was reaffirmed.
