NDI Programs in Parliament

The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) is supporting Parliament through programs funded by the Fundamental Freedoms Fund (FFF), the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). 

NDI’s parliamentary support focuses on strengthening democratic governance by: providing advisory, consultancy and training support to the parliamentary leadership, committees, MPs and staff and to the legislative and oversight process; conducting public opinion research to inform Parliament’s public outreach; working with the House Democracy Partnership of the United States House of Representatives; facilitating involvement in NDI’s Western Balkans Legislative Strengthening Initiative; providing support to both Parliament and Government to manage, oversee and guide the legislative process; supporting the Parliamentary Institute in sustaining the impartiality of its research and information services and; promoting the Assembly’s formal inclusion in the global Open Government Partnership initiative.

NDI’s support to Parliament is also about strengthening the role of women, civil society, youth and media by: providing advisory and consultancy support to the Parliamentary Women’s Club; providing a parliamentary focus on gender equality through a “A Week of Women” events built around International Women’s Day; fostering cooperation and public discussion between CSOs and MPs, committees, parliamentary groups and political parties; providing advisory and consultancy support to the Parliamentary Youth Caucus; providing ongoing and on demand PR support to the parliamentary leadership and; providing media presentation training for MPs.
