PRESIDENT OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA, MR. TRAJKO VELJANOSKI RECEIVED A DELEGATION OF THE UNION OF ASSOCIATIONS OF MACEDONIANS FROM THE AEGEAN PART OF MACEDONIA
During the meeting the implementation was discussed of the Resolution on the Refugees in the Military Actions in the Republic of Greece During the Civil War and the Second World War, adopted by the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia in August 2008. The President of the Association, Mr. Gjorgi Donevski, talked about the importance of the Resolution and the impetus it provided to the activities of the associations and their efforts to ensure restoration of property of the Macedonians from the Aegean Macedonia and the recently initiated actions to claim Republic of Greece nationality.
Furthermore, the Delegation informed President Veljanoski of the programme for celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the end of Greek Civil War (1946-1949). The central event in the programme is the planned construction of a memorial site honouring the victims in the Greek Civil War on a location near Katlanovo where the hospital was located harbouring over 6,500 warriors of the Greek democratic forces, including a large number of ethnic Greeks.
Members of the Delegation appealed for support for this endeavor by the Assembly and President Veljanoski. Member of the Delegation, Mr. Georgi Ajanovski expressed conviction that the objective of the celebration is to create a climate of closeness of the Macedonian and Greek peoples who, unlike the widespread beliefs, have shared similar destiny in history. This, explained Ajanovski, would provide important contribution in the relations between the two countries in this crucial moment.
On behalf of the Union, Mr. Metodija Tosevsk invited President Veljanoski to attend the Third Assembly of the Associations of Macedonian from the Aegean Party of Macedonia to be held on 5 July in Skopje.
President Veljanoski accepted the invitation, expressing readiness to check the implementation status of the commitments expressed in the Resolution adopted by the Assembly. He expressed support for the activities planned with the Programme for the 60th Anniversary of the end of the Greek Civil War.
