Meeting on Resolving the Interethnic Conflicts on Local Level in the Western Balkans
On 2 October, the Committee on Relations among the Communities held a meeting on the topic: Resolving the interethnic conflicts on local level in the Western Balkans, in the cabinet of the Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Xhevat Ademi. The meeting was convened on request of Mr. Julius Goldman - Manager of the CSS Projects for Integrative Mediation.
Mr. Ademi talked about the current work of the Committee on Relations among the Communities and about the realization of the goals, and pointed out that for the first time the Inter Committee is complete when it comes to the staff necessary for its work.
The role of the Committee and its competences, as well as its role in the exercise of the rights of the national communities in the Republic of Macedonia was also discussed at the meeting.
One of the problems, mentioned at the meeting by the Chairman, is the implementation of the laws and the fact that the committees on relations among the communities on local level are not functioning.
Mr. Goldman informed the members of the Committee that the CSS Projects for Integrative Mediation was started in Struga in 2006, where they were focused on the interethnic relations, strengthening the Council for Relations among the Communities and working on resolving the issues on local level. This project will also be initiated in the municipalities of Gazi Baba and Kumanovo.
