Election for the Council of Europe Secretary General postponed for the October Session of the Parliamentary Assembly
The Assembly of the Council of Europe is holding the Third part of its Ordinary Session from 22 to 26 June 2009. Mr. Oliver Sambevski, Head of the Delegation and Mr. Igor Ivanovski, Member of the Delegation are taking part in the work of the Assembly and its bodies.
The Parliamentary Assembly decided not to include in its agenda the election of Secretary General of the Council of Europe and not to hold an urgent debate on this issue. The election of the Secretary General is expected to take place during the October Ordinary Session, after the dispute on the procedure between the Committee of Ministers and the Parliamentary Assembly has been resolved.
The parliamentarians decided to discuss the situation in Iran during an urgent debate.
The hihlights of the summer session will include the adresses of the President of Ireland Mrs. Mary McAleese, the Prime Minister of Slovenia, Mr. Borut Pahor, the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Mr. Thomas Mirow and others.
