23rd Meeting of the Committee on Defence and Security

The Committee on Defence and Security, as the relevant working body, reviewed the Draft Law on Testing, Stamping and Marking Firearms and Ammunition (first reading).

Mr. Xhevat Buci, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, attended the meeting. He elaborated the need for adoption of this Law - the current Law which regulates these issues is from 1973 and contains elements from the previous system which are outdated and do not correspond with the present social and political environment. Also, this Draft-law is better harmonised with the UN Convention on Fight against the Transnational Organized Criminal.

The Member of Parliament Mr. Goran Mincev said that his Parliamentary Group supports the adoption of this law and had several remarks, especially regarding Articles 6 and 8. His remarks were of technical character.

The Committee on Defence and Security concluded unanimously that the Draft Law on Testing, Stamping and Marking Firearms and Ammunition (first reading) is acceptable and that it should proceed to further reading in the Assembly.
