meeting of the vice president of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Rafis Aliti with the delegation from the Foreign Policy Committee of the senate of romania

The Vice President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Rafis Aliti had a meeting with the Delegation from the Foreign Policy Committee from the Senate of Romania headed by the Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Titus Korlacean

The mutual interest for cooperation in the area of economy between the two states was topic of discussion. The experience of Romania as a Member State of EU and NATO is very important for the Republic of Macedonia and the cooperation in many areas should continue.

Romania supports the Republic of Macedonia on the path to EU and NATO and the opinion is that the name issue between the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Greece should be put aside from the main activity, Macedonia’s integration in EU.

It was underlined that the name issue is artificially initialized by the Republic of Greece and that it must be solved. Greece, as part of NATO and EU is in and Macedonia is out, thus it should be more interested to become a Member State of EU. Every poll in the Republic of Macedonia shows that the citizen’s support for the solution of the name issue is high, but the identity and the language are contestable.

It was also underlined that the solution is important for the whole Balkan and that Macedonia’s membership in EU and NATO is important for the stability of the Balkan. Romania- as Member State of EU and NATO is on disposal of the Republic of Macedonia with all its mechanisms.
