Meeting of the Vice-President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia , Ms. Svetlana Jakimovska and the Committee on Harmonization with the European Union from the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey 

The Vice-President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia , Ms. Svetlana Jakimovska  had a meeting with the Committee on Harmonization with the European Union from the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey.  

During the meeting it was underlined that the good and stabile relations between the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Turkey are characterised with friendship and mutual understanding. The Republic of Macedonia highly appreciates the constructive support and solidarity from the Republic of Turkey as well as the principle use of the constitutional name of our country.  

The cooperation between the two sates  on political level is intensive, which means that there are many meetings on government and parliamentary level and ratification of many bilateral agreements in various areas.  

Beside the strong friendship and fruitful cooperation, the Republic of Macedonia  and the Republic of Turkey are connected through the historic and cultural connections. The Representatives of the Turkish Community in the Republic of Macedonia and Turks who have migrated from Macedonia and are established in the Republic of Turkey are significant chain in the friendship between the two states.  

Good and friendly relations between the two states are reflected in the fruitful parliamentary cooperation on bilateral level, between the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia and the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey, and on multilateral level, in the framework of the international parliamentary assemblies. 

Regarding the bilateral cooperation, the meeting of the President of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey, Mr. Koksal Toptan and his address before the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia during his official visit of the Republic of Macedonia in December 2008 were underlined.  

Previously the Committee on European Issues and the Parliamentary Group on Cooperation with the Parliament of the Republic of Turkey from the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia have visited Turkey.  

The Vice-President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia , Ms. Svetlana Jakimovska underlined that the cooperation between the two states in the area of the European Integration is especially significant and informed the guests on the three  working bodies in the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia authorised on the EU Integration process of the Republic of Macedonia. 

The Committee on European Issues authorised for monitoring the implementation of the National Strategy on Integration of the Republic of Macedonia in EU, monitoring the achievement of the obligations arising from the agreements between the Republic of Macedonia and EU.  

The National European Integration Council monitors and evaluates the activities for Membership in EU, provides opinions, directions connected with the preparations for opening accession negotiations; for the negotiating positions of the Republic of Macedonia. The Joint Parliamentary Committee EU- the Republic of Macedonia  is a forum where the MEPs and MPs from Macedonia exchange opinions and experiences in direction of strengthening the mutual partnership.  

The Republic of Turkey is an important trade partner for the Republic of Macedonia  and for the past years it is one of the top ten countries with whom the Republic of Macedonia has major exchange. Nevertheless there is space for broadening the economic cooperation and significant investments from the Republic of Turkey in the Republic of Macedonia.  

During the meeting the hope for further promotion of the cooperation between the two parliaments and for mutual support on international level, bilateral and multilateral level were underlined.
