the new web page of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy was presented  

The Westminster Foundation for Democracy; through the Strengthening the capacities of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia Project presented its new web-page. - http://www.parliamentarycentre.mk/en/. This Project is supported by the British Embassy in the Republic of Macedonia. 

The web page is updated in three languages and aims to promote the training programme of the Foundation, the work of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia the program partners who work in the Westminster Foundation for Democracy and the Assembly, regular update of the planned events, trainings in the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia. 

In the same time, articles on the development of the Assembly written by the MPs, Ambassadors, program partners, civil organizations and the media will be published on the web page. 

This web page is a symbolic virtual centre on parliamentary studies, which will contribute in the enhancement of the general debate on the parliamentary development in the Republic of Macedonia and promotion of the WMF Program. 

The Macedonian Centre for Parliamentary Studies was established by the Westminster Foundation for Democracy with support and in partnership with the British Embassy in Skopje to help the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia to create its own sustainable centre of learning for their staff and members. The Centre comprises of leading experts in the fields of parliamentary practice, financial oversight and communications. Led by the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, the Centre has developed a curriculum based on international best practice the goals of the Centre are:

The Centre aims to:

  • Support the Assembly to develop well functioning committees that are effectively and efficiently passing legislation and conducting oversight
  • Support the Assembly’s Finance and Budget Committee members and staff processing reports from the State Audit Office and holding the government to account
  • Support the Assembly to better communicate its work to citizens and help parliamentary reporters better cover parliamentary affairs
  • Support the Assembly to better consider the rule of law, international conventions and human rights in their legislative and oversight functions.

Led by the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, the Centre has developed a curriculum based on international best practice. Working with Macedonian partners ensures that curriculum content is relevant to local circumstances; it is delivered in a format and an approach suitable to the Assembly and uses both Macedonian and international examples and case studies.

The Centre’s Macedonian partners comprise reputable universities, institutions of learning and non-governmental organizations that have the necessary skills and expertise.
