ADDRESS OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA, MR. TRAJKO VELJANOSKI AT FIRST SESSION OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA

Dear colleagues MPs
Distinguished members of the media
Ladies and gentlemen
At the very beginning, allow me to most sincerely thank you for this election.
The expressed trust electing me as President of the 7th composition of the Macedonian legislative house is a great honor and obligation for me, especially in times when our common determination and acting will determine the trajectory on which our state shall move. In this direction, allow me to convince you that the function you have allocated to me will be exercised consciously, vicariously and above all- responsibly. My political experience, dedication in the achievement of the Macedonian national priorities, as well as devotion to the values of the democracy shall be an additional guarantee that the Macedonian Assembly will be the strongest guarantee for the realization of our state interests.
I wish that the MPS from all political parties together be the guarantee of the security, longevity and development of the Macedonian state.
The initial and the final point of our deeds must be the Republic of Macedonia, and their expression must be through the strength of the word.
The elections are finalized, and today we are starting a new campaign with a common goal: strong, stabile, democratic and prosperous Macedonia.
I would like to convince you that the Republic of Macedonia will be my primer and only interest, and the mechanism for accomplishment of this goal, as I have mentioned during the similar occasion in 2008, when I was elected a President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia for the first time- are the Constitution, the Laws and the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia.
I would like to convince you that the political independence and the responsible approach towards all and everything will be the basis on which we shall build our mutual relations.
The Republic of Macedonia deserves an Assembly in which the political differences shall unite us all under the Macedonian sun.
The Republic of Macedonia deserves an Assembly which shall invigorate our European and Euro-Atlantic path.
Finally, the Republic of Macedonia deserves an assembly, which as a symbol of unity and diversity of the Republic of Macedonia shall promote the multiethnic understanding, tolerance and solidarity.
In my speech in 2008 I have underlined that I will work very hard for the Assembly to become a true shrine of democracy.
I have promised hard work, self-sacrificing and many efforts.
I have promised return of the dignity of the legislative governance and a strong institutional engagement in direction of ensuring the progress of our state- the Republic of Macedonia.
Today, looking back to the past years I think that we have room for content. The two positive reports from the European Commission, which affirm the key role of the Assembly in the achievement of our European agenda, are an undeniable affirmation of this statement. In this sense, may the achievements from the past, the heritage of the previous assembly compositions, as well as the achievements of the 22 President of the Macedonian legislative house, starting from the grand Metodija Andonov Chento be the basis from which we shall be invigorated to handle the challenges that are coming, whose essence lies in the statement- the reforms must continue.
Distinguished colleagues,
The historic challenges which are a grand responsibility, personal maturity and determination in the achievement of the commonly determined goals, for which we were given an undeniable affirmation and legitimacy by our citizens, are standing before the 7th composition of the Macedonian legislative house and before the Government on whose election we shall debated in the following days.
On the foundation of the achieved state goals, we must finalize the building of the modern European state, so that we can fully finalize the path on which we are headed since this Assembly adopted the historic decision for sovereignty of the Macedonian state.
I am convinced we will achieve these higher goals, since they are the measure for our common responsibility.
Distinguished colleagues,
As “first among the equals” I call you to be proud of the received trust from the citizens and in the same time I call you to be permanently aware in its exercise.
I believe that you are well aware that there is no higher interest for determination of the duty of an MP than the Macedonian state interests. Let this remain a primary guiding idea and may no other goal burden our debates and work,
The Macedonian Assembly should continue to be a representative of the interests of all members of the Macedonian society from every part of our state.
Again, I am convinced that our overall determination to democracy and to the respect of the human rights and freedoms will be reaffirmed through our work and adopted decisions during this mandate of the Macedonian legislative house.
The years ahead are so serious and important because our European image and devotion to the family of free and democratic world is to be maintained and must be maintained in the hall of the Macedonian Assembly.
Dear friends,
In the time that comes, we have to continue working and finding manners to develop the political pluralism and strengthen the consensus.
I am convinced that the 7th composition of the Macedonian legislative house shall face the challenges and shall provide a significant contribution in the development of Macedonia.
I am convinced that the Macedonian legislative house will be an affirmation of the new political maturity of the Republic of Macedonia so that in the end of our mandates we can all stand together on the positive side of the history.
The citizens voted for accomplishment of strategic goals of our state. They expect this overall approach to be accomplished in the framework of the parliamentary procedure. I am aware that the duty of the president is not easy at all, but I am more than confident that this important state duty if exercised honestly will be easier.
Let the Republic of Macedonia be eternal and blessed from God.
