MEETING OF PRESIDENT TRAJKO VELJANOSKI WITH THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF COMMONS OF THE UNITED KINGDOM, THE RT HON JOHN BERCOW
Today the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski, met with the Speaker of the House of Commons of the UK Parliament, the Rt. Hon. John Bercow.
Mr. Bercow expressed the strong support that the United Kingdom is giving to the Republic of Macedonia in the process of accession to NATO and the European Union.
He noted the friendly relations between the United Kingdom and the Republic of Macedonia and the cooperation in various fields, especially in the international peace keeping missions.
President Veljanoski said that he expects and hopes that the decision of the International Court of Justice in Hague regarding the imposed dispute over the constitutional name of the Republic of Macedonia will contribute to the creation of favourable conditions for realization of the aspirations of the country. He also informed his host that the reforms demanded by the EU and NATO are improving the lives of the citizens of the country.
One of the topics at the meeting was the economic cooperation and the possibilities for increased British investments in Macedonia. The Speaker of the House of Commons wanted to know more about the work of the Assembly, especially about the MP questions to the Government and the debates with the Prime Minister. The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia invited his counterpart to visit Macedonia.
After the meeting, President Veljanoski and the members of the Macedonian delegation participated in the work of the parliamentary group of the UK Parliament for cooperation with Macedonia, headed by Ms. Karen Lumley.
