MEETING OF THE PRESIDENT VELJANOSKI AND THE PRIME MINISTER OF THE REPUBLIC OF ALBANIA, MR. SALI BERISHA

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski, underlining the developed relations between the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Albania, emphasised that the visit of the Prime Minister, Mr. Sali Berisha is a significant impetus for the future development of the relations between the two states. The European Integration remains the high priority for the Republic of Macedonia. “I expect that we will receive a date on opening accession negation with the European Union in December. This will be important for the state and for its citizens, but also for the region and its Euro Atlantic perspective, underlined Veljanoski. I hope that the Republic of Albania will receive candidate state next year since the Membership in the European Union, as a region, will benefit all the states.

Speaking about the cooperation between the two parliaments, the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski underlined that the cooperation with the Albanian Parliament is well developed and covers all areas and levels of cooperation. Considering the experience of the Republic of Macedonia in the integration process, we are always prepared to share this experience with our colleagues, and in the same time we are prepared for further contribution, through the parliamentary diplomacy, in the overall development of the parliamentary relations and the situation in the Region- underlined Veljanoski.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania, Mr. Sali Berisha, expressing his appreciation for the visit and for the discussions, underlined the progress of the Republic of Macedonia in the European Integration Process. Emphasising the highly developed bilateral relations, the Prime Minister Berisha underlined the parliamentary cooperation, which was evaluated as very good and which contributes in the development of the bilateral relations. It is in our interest and priority, the Republic of Macedonia to become a Member State of NATO, and you deserve to open accession negotiations.

The Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Macedonia, as well as other states from the Region should intensively work on the economic cooperation and the common representation in the European Union. In this framework, the infrastructural connection between our states, in the framework of Corridor 8 is significant for the Region and wider. Also Mr. Berisha underlined the progress of the Republic of Macedonia in the future implementation of the Ohrid Framework Agreement, which confirms that the Republic of Macedonia is a stabile state of the Region.
