PROTOCOL MEETING OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA, MR. TRAJKO VELJANOSKI AND THE NEWLY APPOINTED AMBASSADOR OF THE REPUBLIC OF AUSTRIA, MR. THOMAS MICHAEL BAIER 

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski welcomed the Newly Appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Thomas Michael Baier. 

The President Veljanoski, wishing the Ambassador a successful mandate, expressed his hope and conviction that the successful cooperation between the Embassy of Austria and the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia will continue. 

It was concluded that the past period was marked by a fruitful bilateral cooperation on the highest level, and in direction of deepening this cooperation, the President Veljanoski initiated a meeting with the Speaker of the Austrian Parliament, Ms. Barbara Pramer during 2012; and Mr. Baier, conveying the regards of Ms. Pramer, stated that the meeting should be realized as soon as possible. 

The Ambassador Baier underlined that the mandate in the Republic of Macedonia will be an excellent opportunity to become acquainted with the governance of the country. Also he expressed interest in the implementation of the Ohrid Framework Agreement, the work of the Inter-Community Relations Committee, the similarities and the differences of the both Constitutions, the election of the President of the state, the parliamentary work, as well as the verdict of the International Court of Justice in Hague. Regarding this verdict, the President Veljanoski underlined that this it is comprehended as a confirmation of the facts and events.

Regarding the enlargement of the European Union, Mr. Baier underlined the opinion of Austria on enlargement of the European Union with the countries of the Western Balkan, since this will benefit region, as well as Europe in general. He also expressed the opinion that the accession negotiations should be parallel with the negotiation for the name issues with Greece. 

One of the topics of the meeting, was the deepening the economic cooperation, which has a positive tendency at the moment. In this direction was the Forum of Vienna organised by the Austrian Chamber of Commerce, which indicated the positive investment climate, positive signals and will for investments in the Republic of Macedonia by the Austrian companies. 

In this context, the President Veljanoski underlined that the Republic of Macedonia constantly implements reforms which, together with the good business climate provide foreign investments.
