STATEMENT OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA, MR. TRAJKO VELJANOSKI AFTER SIGNING THE DECISION TO CALL ON EARLY ELECTIONS
Distinguished representatives of the media,
Today, in accordance with the constitutional competences and on the basis of the Decision on Dissolution adopted by the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia I have ratified the Decision to call on early parliamentary elections, which will be held on 5th June 2011.
The sovereignty arises and belongs to the citizens. At the end of today’s session the Assembly decided that the citizens of the Republic of Macedonia should assess the legitimacy of the parliamentary political entities on early parliamentary elections.
I would like to seize this opportunity and to appeal to all political parties to be responsible in providing conditions for fair and democratic elections. Certainly, every political party tends to ensure citizens and the public support for their program, but also they must contribute in the creation of constructive atmosphere and strengthen the mutual trust.
In the same time I call upon members and supporters of the political parties to participate in a fair and dignified manner in the overall election process and to bare in mind the overall common interests of the state.
The citizens provide the final evaluation for the proposed programs. In this direction I call upon the citizens of the Republic of Macedonia to express their opinion on these early elections and to support and give the mandate to those who deserve to lead the Republic of Macedonia in the future period.
Finally, allow me to call upon the media to provide their contribution in the election process as well.
