MEETING OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA, MR. TRAJKO VELJANOSKI AND THE SPEAKER OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF ALBANIA, MS. JOZEFINA COBA TOPALLI

„One of the priorities of our foreign policy is the highly developed good neighbourly relations, and in this framework is our meeting and discussions” underlined the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski.

I would especially like to underline the continuous cooperation between our parliaments on every level, from the level of committees to the level of Speakers. All this contributes in the bilateral relations and strengthens the overall stability of the region and its Euro-Atlantic relations- underlined the President Veljanoski.

Reminding that the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Albania have walked the path of integration in NATO together, and our state did not receive invitation because of the well known reasons imposed by our Southern neighbour, Mr. Veljanoski underlined that prior the Chicago Summit, Macedonia expects that the Member States will respect the verdict of the International Court of Hague, which clearly reads that the Republic of Macedonia, opposite from the international principles and agreements is blocked by our Sothern neighbour.

I would like to underlie that the Republic of Macedonia will continue its participation in the NATO Missions and the international communities after the Chicago Summit, exercising its obligation to the world peace and fight against terrorism- underlined the President Veljanoski.

The future cooperation between the two parliaments will be focused on the EU Integrations.

We are prepared to share our experience with our Albanian colleagues, since the European integration for all states in the region is the only alternative. We all have our own history, we should not forget it, but it is our responsibility to create better conditions for our citizens and the Region- emphasised the President Veljanoski.

The interlocutors referred to the economic cooperation as well. The President Veljanoski underlined the need of joint projects in the area of infrastructure and energy, as well as projects for protection of the environment, above all the Ohrid Lake.

The Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Albania, Ms. Jozefina Coba Topalli underlined that the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Albania are not only neighbours, but they are great friends that share many common goals and interests.

We have always supported the Republic of Macedonia in its Euro-Atlantic Integration, especially regarding NATO. We will continue our intensive support the formal integration, since you are a Member State of NATO with your activities and engagement so far.

Regarding the parliamentary cooperation, I am convinced that it will continue on every level and in the future we should emphasise the EU Integration. In this area we welcome every experience. The economic cooperation should be intensified, on bilateral, on regional level and wider, underlined Ms. Topalli.
