MEETING OF THE PRESIDENT VELJANOSKI AND THE U.S. CONGRESSMEN
The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski welcomed the Delegation of the Congress of the United States of America, comprised of the Congressmen: David Dreier, David Price, Jim McDermott, Erik Paulsen and Gerry Connolly.
At the meeting, marked by the friendly relations between the two legislative houses, the President Veljanoski underlined the efforts as well as the results of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia in the further development of the parliamentary democracy in Macedonia.
Speaking of our European Integration, the President Veljanoski underlined the letter to the President of USA, Mr. Barack Obama signed by 54 Congressmen, requesting the Republic of Macedonia to receive an official invitation for membership in NATO on the forthcoming NATO Summit in Chicago.
The President Veljanoski also referred to many projects, some finalized and others in the final phase, which are being implemented because of the established partnership with the U.S. Congress and many other international organizations and institutions.
All this contributes for further strengthening of the democratic processes in the society, especially in the strengthening of the role of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia as legislator, as well as for its scrutiny role.
„I will only remind on the three consecutive EC Progress Reports which clearly underline the role and the progress of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia in all these processes” underlined the President Veljanoski.
The Congressman David Dreier, Head of the Delegation, expressing appreciation for this meting, reminded of the previous meetings with the President Veljanoski and underlined that the Republic of Macedonia is a recognisable and significant partner of the overall policy of USA.
He stated that they wish, expect and support full integration of the Republic of Macedonia in Euro-Atlantic structures. As sincere and open friends, we are always prepared to help these processes and the further development of the parliamentary democracy through various forms of assistance.
Congressman David Paulsen underlined the contribution of the Members of the Army of the Republic of Macedonia in Iraq and later in Afghanistan.
We highly appreciate you efforts and continue our support these efforts for membership in EU and NATO, as well as the process of strengthening the role of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia in the overall democratic processes, underlined Mr. Paulsen.
