THE PRESIDENT VELJANOSKI HAD A FAREWELL MEETING WITH THE AMBASSADOR OF THE REPUBLIC OF GREECE, MS. Alexandra Papadopoulou

One of the statements at the friendly meeting was that both neighbours are directed towards cooperation and that the problems obstructing this cooperation should be resolved.

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski express his regret for the lack of cooperation on parliamentary level, including the level of Speakers, MPs and Committees.

He also expressed hope that the parliamentary cooperation will be established in very near future, underlining that the parliamentary diplomacy is an excellent and progressively practiced instrument for improvement of the cooperation, especially between the states with open issues. The President Veljanoski expressed hope and expectation that at the forthcoming Summit of the European Council there will not be a blockade and that a date on opening negotiations will be determined.

The interlocutors expressed their expectation that at the Summit of Speakers, in the framework of SEECP, chaired by the Republic of Macedonia and scheduled for May 2013, there will be a meeting between the two Speakers, Mr. Veljanoski and Mr. Meimarakis.

Ambassador Papadopoulou, staying almost 6 years in Macedonia, underlined that there are no obstacles in the cooperation or the communication between the citizens and the businessmen. On the contrary, the cooperation and the visits have been intensive, even in the economically critical years, 2009 and 2010.

The President expressed his keenness for stabilization of the economic situation in Greece and future investments as well as cooperation in the areas of economy and business.

Both sides agreed that this cooperation is an excellent basis and example for the cooperation on political level.

The new Ambassador of the Republic of Greece to the Republic of Macedonia is expected to assume his position at the beginning of January 2013.
