THE PRESIDENT OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA, MR. TRAJKO VELJANOSKI, MET WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF THE MACEDONIAN COMMUNITY IN AUSTRALIA
The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski, today met with representatives of the Australian Macedonian Human Rights Committee (AMHRC). The leaders of the Committee informed President Veljanoski about the activities, structure and membership of the Human Rights Committee, as well as about the publications of AMHRC in Australia and the states and territories where the Macedonian community lives.
President Veljanoski congratulated the members of the Australian Macedonian Human Rights Committee for their perseverance in the efforts to erase the term "Slav-Macedonian", which was introduced in 1994, and the restoration of the term "Macedonian" in all official documents and institutions.
The meeting also focused on ways for direct cooperation with AMHRC, with interlocutors agreeing that Macedonians in Australia should be more actively involved in politics in order to resolve the open issues of the members of the Macedonian Community in Australia.
Later President Veljanoski met with representatives of the Macedonian Community Council of Victoria, who informed Mr. Veljanoski about their activities aimed at getting recognition of the Republic of Macedonia from the Australian authorities under its constitutional name.
They also informed the guests from Macedonia about their objective to unite all the organizations of Macedonians and to act together and coordinate the activities for more active participation of the Macedonians in the political life of Victoria and Australia.
President Veljanoski showed interest in the future plans of the Council and the ways in which the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia could assist the Macedonian community in Australia.
In the afternoon, members of the Macedonian organizations, associations and individuals from Victoria organized a reception for President Veljanoski and the members of the Macedonian Delegation.
