MACEDONIA AND ALBANIA SHARE THE SAME STRATEGIC GOAL – EU MEMBERSHIP

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Group of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia for Cooperation with the Parliament of the Republic of Albania, Mr. Orhan Ibraimi, and the members of the Parliamentary Group: Mr. Avdija Pepic, Gjorgi Kodzabasiev, Mr. Mitre Veljanovski, Ms. Fljamure Demiri-Kreci, and Mr. Hxevat Ademi today had a meeting with Ms. Jozefina Coba Topalli, President of the Assembly of the Republic of Albania.

Ms Topalli was accompanied by the Members of the Albanian Members of Parliament: Mr. Arben Ahmetaj, Mr. Bedri Hoxha, Mr. Ismail Hoxha and Ms. Mimi Kodheli. The Ambassador of the Republic of Macedonia to Albania - Mr. Vele Trpevski and the Albanian Ambassador to Macedonia - Mr. Arben Cejku, were also present at the meeting.

At the beginning of the meeting the Chairman of the Parliamentary Group, Mr. Orhan Imbraimi, said that the visit of Ms. Topalli is confirmation of the good and friendly relations between the two countries. The Republic of Macedonia and Albania have signed a great number of agreements that cover various fields, including the economy, trade and initiatives raised by both Governments.

One of the topics discussed at the meeting was education, and both sides agreed to intensify the cooperation of the relevant working bodies of the two Parliaments in this field.

Integration in NATO and the EU continues to be a strategic goal for the Republic of Macedonia. Ms. Topalli said that in the time of globalization and integration the best solution is integration in EU and NATO, which can act as a driving force for intensification of the reforms and achieving the EU standards. Ms. Topalli invited the members of the Parliamentary Group of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia for Cooperation with the Parliament of the Republic of Albania to visit Albania.
