Young people are the driving force of the IPS Project

The Vice President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Ms. Svetlana Jakimovska, today met the students from the International Parliamentary Scholarships (IPS) Project of the German Bundestag.

H.E. Ms. Gudrun Steinacker - Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Antonijo Milošoski - Chairman of the Parliamentary Group of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia for Cooperation with the Parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany, and the scholarship students of the IPS Project: Ms. Katerina Bakalova, Mr. Sašo Andreevski and Ms. Violeta Risteska, attended the meeting. 

Vice President Jakimovska expressed appreciation to Ambassador Gudrun Steinacker for her efforts for continuation of the IPS Roject.

She encouraged the students to learn as much as they can about the work of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia and of the Bundestag, and after they complete their 5-month stay in Germany, to come back in the Assembly and share their experiences and impressions about the work of the Bundestag. Ms. Jakimovska gave the students promotional material about the Republic of Macedonia. 

She informed the German Ambaasador about the programme that the students have in the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, where they will meet the heads of most of the Assembly Departments and the members of the Staff of the Cabinet of the President of the Assembly.

Ms. Jakimovska also said that the students will have the opportunity to follow the work of the Assembly from the gallery of the Plenary Hall, as well as to attend meetings of the working bodies.

The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Macedonia, Ms. Gudrun Steinacker, pointed out that the parliamentarians from the German Bundestag have been pleasantly surprised from the support that the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia is giving to the scholarship students, which is not often the case with the parliaments of other countries.

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Group for with the Parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr.  Antonijo Milošoski, expressed his satisfaction from the fact that each year Macedonia has representatives in the Bundestag, informing that he himself has been a scholarship student in Germany. 

The International Parliamentary Scholarships (IPS) is a traditional activity of the German Bundestag. It is a project of the German Parliament in cooperation with the Technical University, Freie Universität Berlin, and Humboldt University, providing opportunity to young graduate students from South-Eastern Europe to learn more about the parliamentary system in Germany. 

The Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia is included in the IPS Project since 2001.  The German Bundestag, the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia and the German Embassy are the institutions authorised for implementation of the Project.
