FAREWELL MEETING OF PRESIDENT XHAFERI WITH THE AMBASSADOR DIMITRIS YANNAKAKIS 

In today’s meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Greece to the Republic of North Macedonia, H.E. Dimitris Yannakakis, the President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi, expressed satisfaction with the current cooperation with the Ambassador and expressed confidence that in the upcoming period, the cooperation with the new Ambassador of the Republic of Greece will also continue at the highest level, as to date.

President Xhaferi emphasized the role and significance of the Prespa Agreement as a significant historical moment that will represent a strong foundation in the further development of the good neighborly relations between the two countries and underlined that our commitments for EU integration remain a top priority for our country.  In this regard, he underlined that with strong commitment and by accepting the new methodology of Brussels, we will walk the path to the EU institutions. At the context of parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, the President expressed hope that in the upcoming period it will be intensified and invited again his colleague, the President of the Parliament of the Republic of Greece to visit our country.

The Ambassador, Dimitris Yannakakis, thanked for the opportunity to meet with the President of the Assembly and fully agreed with the conclusion that the last two years were historical for both countries.  He underlined that, even though the Prespa Agreement was critics by both parties, it still represents an excellent legal foundation for strengthening and advancing the joint cooperation and trust between the two countries. Ambassador Yannakakis underlined that the cooperation between both countries, besides the COVID 19 pandemics is moving upwards, with numerous bilateral meetings at high levels and in this context he announced the visit of President Pendarovski to official Athens next year. Regarding the strengthening of parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, the Ambassador emphasized the establishment of the Parliamentary Group for Cooperation of the Parliament of Greece with the relevant Parliamentary Group in the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia as a positive moment.   

At the end, both interlocutors expressed their assurance that by continuing with the mutual cooperation, they can do a lot for their countries.
