Joint Defence in the Fight against Terrorism is needed

The Committee on Defence and Security of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia had a meeting with the Albanian delegation, headed by Ms. Mimi Kodeli, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Albania.

The Chair of the Committee, Mr. Emil Dimitriev opened the meeting and underlined that Macedonia and Albania are two neighbouring and friendly states, in good relations and joint engagement in the area of defence.

He reminded that the main strategic priorities of our state are the membership in NATO and in EU, and the even though Macedonia is not part of the Alliance, it participates in many peace keeping missions.

Mr. Dimitriev expects continuation of the cooperation with our Western neighbour in the future, as well as continuation thereof.

He Minister Kodeli underlined the openness of Albania as Member State of NATO for exchange of experience that would facilitate our path towards the membership in the biggest security organization.

She was clear that as witnesses of the current developments in France, Ukraine and many other states, a joint agenda is needed, as well initiatives and projects in the fight against the global terrorism, since very country regardless if it is or not Member of NATO, is not immune to the terrorist phenomena. Hence, we need joint defence in this mindless war, aiming to secure peace and security for the current and future generations.
