MEETING BETWEEN PRESIDENT XHAFERI AND H.E. CLEMENS KOJA

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi, met today with the Head of the OSCE Mission to Skopje, H.E. Clemens Koja.

President Xhaferi emphasized that he highly appreciates the role of OSCE in the development of the democratic processes in the country, OSCE/ODIHR contribution in monitoring the election processes, as well as the continuous cooperation of the Assembly with the OSCE Mission to Skopje. He stressed that the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, in which the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia actively participates, is a vital link between the Organization and the MPs, who are directly elected by the citizens.

Ambassador Clemens Koja congratulated Xhaferi on his re-election as President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia and stressed that the OSCE Mission to Skopje will continue to cooperate with the legislature in implementing the reform process.

President Xhaferi and Ambassador Koja exchanged views on the priorities of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia in the forthcoming period, that is, the need to adopt reform laws in anticipation of the intergovernmental conference for the start EU membership negotiations, the need to debate the anti-discrimination law again, to confirm the decisions on a state of emergency and the amendments to the Rules of Procedure as agreed at the Jean Monnet Dialogue.

The need to enable alternative ways of work for the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia in a state of pandemic or other unpredictable situations, was also discussed at the meeting.

The interlocutors stressed the fruitful cooperation between the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia and the OSCE Mission to Skopje aimed at strengthening parliamentary independence, its oversight and democratic role, and expressed readiness to continue and deepen cooperation in this area.
