MEETING BETWEEN PRESIDENT XHAFERI AND H.E. TAMARA LILUASHVILI

At today's meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador of Georgia, H.E. Tamara Liluashvili, the President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi, expressed hope that after the establishment of diplomatic relations between Georgia and the Republic of North Macedonia in 2019, we will finally start working intensively on the promotion and intensification of bilateral communication and political cooperation at all levels. In that regard, he expressed satisfaction with the fact that a three-member Parliamentary Group for Cooperation with our Assembly has been established in the Parliament of Georgia and stressed that in the near future we will reciprocate to this act. 

President Xhaferi welcomed the proposal for signing an Agreement between the two governments on mutual abolition of the visa regime for holders of biometric passports and expressed hope that this Agreement will be signed and ratified at the earliest opportunity, seeing it as a good opportunity for better communication and cooperation between the two countries. I am glad that next month the Georgian President will pay an official visit to the Republic of North Macedonia, which will be a great opportunity to start mutual political cooperation at the highest level, President Xhaferi said. 

The newly appointed Ambassador of Georgia, H.E. Tamara Liluashvili thanked for the opportunity to meet with the President of the Assembly and stressed that it is an honor and pleasure for her to be appointed as the first Ambassador of Georgia to the Republic of North Macedonia. In that regard, she expressed confidence that in the coming period we will create conditions for the opening of resident embassies in both countries, which will gradually intensify our diplomatic communication, reaching the desired level.

The Ambassador of Georgia also extended an official invitation on behalf of the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Mr. Archil Talakvadze, to the President of the Assembly Xhaferi, for an official visit to Georgia in the coming period. Her Excellency also expressed her gratitude for our support of the 2009 Georgian Resolution on the Status of Internally Displaced Persons and Refugees from Abkhazia, Georgia and the region of South Ossetia. She offered her congratulations on our NATO membership and support on our way to the EU!
