MEETING OF PRESIDENT XHAFERI WITH THE IRANIAN AMBASSADOR KARIMI

The President of the Parliament, Mr. Talat Xhaferi met today with the Ambassador of Iran to the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Hosein Karimi. 

At the beginning of the meeting, the Ambassador expressed words of congratulation for the election of Mr. Talat Xhaferi for the President of the Parliament of Macedonia, wishing him success in the further work and used the opportunity to deliver the letter of congratulation from the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Hasan Rouhani. 

The Ambassador Karimi emphasized that Iran has closely followed the latest events in the Republic of Macedonia and he personally has expressed satisfaction regarding the engagement of the political parties and the civil society, as well as the tendency to respect the rules of a democratic society during the recent events which he evaluates as a key factor of the democratic processes that enabled resolution of the political crisis in the country. 

Presdent Xhaferi thanked the Ambassador for the congratulations and the support, underlining that thanks to the citizens' support and the political commitment, the political crisis in the country was successfully overcame. The President of the Assembly stressed that Republic of Macedonia has democratic determinations and is oriented towards the EU and NATO membership. 

Ambassador Karimi expressed conviction that the Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia has and can play an important and constructive role in building the future of this country, from the aspect of decision making as well as the aspect of keeping the unity of the country. Also, he underlined that Iran is committed to the establishment of positive relations and cooperation with all the states in the Balkans, with a special attention to creating good relations with the European countries.  

President Xhaferi emphasized that the Republic of Macedonia is focused on building a better future for the country, while from a multilateral aspect, baring in mind that Macedonia is a state with a small territory and a small number of population, there can be no greater effect in the global politics, but due to the favourable geopolitical and strategic position, strives to be neutral and impartial, establishing good relations with all the states. 

At the end of the meeting, the interlocutors expressed readiness to continue the bilateral cooperation between the two states on all the institutional levels, to keep the peace, stability and wellbeing.
