MEETING OF THE PRESIDENT XHAFERI WITH THE HEAD OF THE LIAISON OFFICE OF REPUBLIC OF GREECE IN SKOPJE, THE AMBASSADOR MR. DIMITRIS JANAKAKIS
The president of the Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Talat Xhaferi, today held a meeting with the Head of the liaison office of Republic of Greece in Skopje, the Ambassador Mr. Dimitris Janakakis.
President Talat Xhaferi welcomed the Ambassador of Republic of Greece and expressed satisfaction for the good signals and signs of the deepening of the cooperation between the two countries after the recent visit of the Minister of foreign affairs, Mr. Dimitrov to Athens.
The President of the Assembly, Mr. Xhaferi expressed readiness to reaffirm the invitation to the President of the Parliament of Greece, Mr. Nikolaos Vucis, to visit the Republic of Macedonia, as well as the possibility to meet with him on the margins of the international parliamentary meetings. At the same time, he informed that the Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia establishes on a regular base Parliamentary group for cooperation with the Parliament of the Republic of Greece.
While congratulating the election for President of the Assembly, the Ambassador, Mr. Dimitris Janakakis reminded that also the President of the Parliament of Greece, Mr. Nikolaos Vucis, extended congrats for the election of Mr. Xhaferi. He assessed that apart from the name issue, there are no other serious opened issues between the two states and the regular communication and contacts can contribute to a faster solution of this problem. Republic of Greece supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of it`s neighbour and wishes success in the Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
According to the Ambassador, the measures for building trust among both countries so far gave measurable results in more fields, but there are still possibilities for the advancement of the bilateral cooperation.
The President, Mr. Xhaferi expressed hope that there will be a solution for the only issue standing on the road to membership of the Republic of Macedonia in EU and NATO.
At the end of the meeting, the interlocutors agreed for the need for more frequent meetings between the representatives of the both countries, which will contribute to a good neighbourly relations and improving of the perception among the peoples.
