ONLINE MEETING BETWEEN MP ALEKSANDAR NIKOLOSKI AND MEP ANDREAS SCHIEDER
The Chairperson of the National European Integration Council, Aleksandar Nikoloski, held an online meeting today with MEP Andreas Schieder, Chairperson of the Delegation to the Joint Parliamentary Committee EU-Republic of North Macedonia.
The meeting focused on the relations between our country and the European Union, the cooperation between the European Parliament and the Assembly, the possibilities for starting accession negotiations with the EU, the dynamics of key reforms in the country and the current political situation in the country.
At the beginning, the two interlocutors welcomed the opportunity to hold a virtual meeting in order to meet and forward future cooperation.
MEP Schieder was interested in the way the National European Integration Council works and the challenges facing this body. Nikoloski informed him on the composition of the Council, comprised of wide scoped stakeholders coming from the social, legislative and executive governance, chambers of commerce, religious communities, civil society, all of whom participate in building the consensus with which the Council decides.
Schieder underlined the importance of continuing the cooperation between the MEPs and the Members of the Assembly within the Jean Monnet Dialogue, with the involvement of all political parties and debate on all key issues and challenges.
Nikoloski also expressed support for the continuation of the talks between the ruling parties and the opposition in the Assembly in the framework of the Jean Monnet Dialogue, in order to overcome current challenges.
The two interlocutors exchanged views on key reforms in the judiciary, the fight against corruption, the implementation of legislation, access to the education system for persons with disabilities, as well as this year's upcoming local elections.
