PARTICIPATION OF MP ADEMI IN THE VIRTUAL MEETIN ON THE TOPIC: “WESTERN BALKANS: 25 YEARS AFTER THE DAYTON AGREEMENT”  

The Chairman of the Committee on European Affairs of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, Arber Ademi, today participated in the virtual meeting Inter-parliamentary Committee Meeting on the topic: “Western Balkans: 25 Years After the Dayton Agreement”, which was held in Brussels, organized by the Committee on Foreign Affairs AFET, in the European Parliament. 

In the discussion on the topic participated also the Chairman of the Committee, Ademi, who underlined that North Macedonia made historical steps in improving the neighborly relations with Greece and Bulgaria, by signing the agreements for cooperation, and for which it was rewarded with the membership in NATO.  Also, Ademi noted that the country is committed in fulfilling the required EU reforms, in order in December, in Berlin, to be approved the negotiation framework for membership in the EU and to hold the Intergovernmental Conference as soon as possible. In this context, he called for understanding of the country’s need to start the negotiations by chapters, and for support by the MP fellows in the national parliaments of member countries of the EU, in order for our country to continue its path toward the EU.

The Conference was chaired by the Chair, David McAllister, and introductory speeches were given also by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borell, and the European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, who reaffirmed the support of the EU for further enlargement with the countries of Western Balkans. In the rich discussion were made conclusions about the current situations in the region, as well as proposals to overcome certain situations which burden the Region, with emphasis on the situations in BiH and the Serbia – Kosovo relations.
