FAREWELL MEETING BETWEEN PRESIDENT XHAFERI AND AMBASSADOR ŽBOGAR

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi, had a farewell meeting today with the Ambassador and Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of North Macedonia, H.E. Samuel Žbogar.

President Xhaferi expressed his gratitude for the past cooperation with the Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of North Macedonia, and personally, to Ambassador Žbogar, for his contribution to the processes that were a positive turning point on the Euro-Atlantic path of the country and wished him success in his future professional engagements. He stressed the importance of the dynamic cooperation with the institutions of the European Union, especially the European Commission and the European Parliament, as longtime supporters of our integration processes. President Xhaferi hailed the Jean Monnet Dialogue as a successful tool for advancing political dialogue in the Assembly and expressed hope that the Assembly would actively support the country's EU membership negotiations.

Ambassador Žbogar first congratulated him on his re-election as President of the Assembly and expressed his gratitude for the cooperation over the past four years, for President Xhaferi's commitment to implementing the European agenda, conducting political dialogue with all parliamentary parties and his role as President of all MPs in the Assembly. He expressed hope that a negotiating framework would be established in the coming weeks to hold the first intergovernmental conference by the end of the year. The Assembly will play a role in this new phase of the process and that is why it is extremely important that all political parties actively participate with regard to EU issues. What is of special importance in the forthcoming period is the adoption of the Law on Anti-Discrimination, the election of members in the Citizen Oversight Council and ensuring there are conditions for its proper functioning, Žbogar said.
