MEETING BETWEEN PRESIDENT XHAFERI AND H.E. HASAN MEHMET SEKIZKÖK

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi, met today with the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey, H.E. Hasan Mehmet Sekizkök. At the meeting, mutual satisfaction was expressed with the excellent bilateral relations and the successful cooperation between the two countries, in the spirit of traditional friendship and partnership.

President Xhaferi referred to the fruitful cooperation between the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, both bilaterally and multilaterally, within the international parliamentary assemblies. He underlined the importance of the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP), currently chaired by the Republic of Turkey, as well as the role of the SEECP Parliamentary Assembly, in which the two countries' parliaments actively participate.

Xhaferi expressed gratitude for the overall support of the Republic of Turkey to the Republic of North Macedonia, especially for the solidarity in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, which included donations of medical equipment and products to improve hygiene and safety conditions in schools.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey Hasan Mehmet Sekizkök said that the friendly relations between the two countries and the joint efforts to enhance economic cooperation will contribute to the intensification and deepening of trade and investment. He stressed that Turkey considers North Macedonia as an important partner and will continue its support for the country in future, in all areas of interest to citizens.

The meeting also discussed the long-term cooperation in the field of defence, emphasizing that Republic of North Macedonia's membership in NATO makes way for further advancement of partnership and support within the Alliance.

The interlocutors exchanged views on current developments in the region and beyond, and agreed that open issues should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.

At the same time, readiness was expressed to continue the active and open cooperation in order to further enhance the overall bilateral relations and friendship between the two countries.
