MEETING BETWEEN PRESIDENT XHAFERI AND H.E. KATE MARIE BYRNES 

Today, the President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi, welcomed the Ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of North Macedonia, H.E. Kate Marie Byrnes and her associates.

At the meeting, President Xhaferi expressed gratitude for the support that the US Embassy and the United States provide to the Republic of North Macedonia, emphasizing that the United States' continued focus on our country and the region as a whole is essential to us.

President Xhaferi informed Ambassador Byrnes about the expected engagement of the new Government in relation to the pandemic and the measures for protection of citizens' health, the economic measures to support the population and the preparation of the strategy for starting accession negotiations with the European Union, as three main priorities of action. He also spoke about the planned activities of the Assembly until the end of this year.

Ambassador Byrnes congratulated President Xhaferi on the successful parliamentary elections, the establishment of the institutions and his re-election as President of the Legislature. She stressed that the Republic of North Macedonia has made significant progress in the short term, especially in the area of Euro-Atlantic integration. Her Excellency said it was crucial to form the widest possible support in the Assembly for the achievement of the strategic goals, especially in regard with NATO and the EU membership. She highlighted the issues related to economic security, such as cyber-security and national investment screening, and added that the adoption of the Anti-Discrimination Law, the Anti-Corruption Strategy, NATO treaties and the Arms and Military Equipment Law are important for moving forward.

At the end of the meeting, it was assessed that the two countries, as strategic partners, will continue the fruitful cooperation.
