MEETING BETWEEN PRESIDENT XHAFERI AND H.E. LÁSZLÓ ISTVÁN

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi, met today with the Ambassador of the Republic of Hungary to the Republic of North Macedonia, H.E. László István. At the meeting, President Xhaferi expressed gratitude for the continuous support from the Republic of Hungary to our Euro-Atlantic and European integration.

In addition, he briefed the Ambassador on the upcoming work activities of the Assembly, such as the consideration of several legislative amendments imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, then the activities related to the European agenda and the opening of the first chapters at the end of this year. He also informed about achieving full functionality of the Assembly with the establishment of the delegations for multilateral cooperation and the groups for bilateral cooperation.

Ambassador István congratulated President Xhaferi on his re-election and welcomed the formation of the Government and the functioning of the Assembly. He confirmed that Hungary will continue to provide financial and economic support to the country, given that there is progress in this area. Although the Republic of North Macedonia and Hungary are not neighbouring countries, Hungary is still ranked as the eleventh trade partner of the country. He stressed that Hungary will continue to give support in dealing with the migrants on the southern border where Hungarian police officers patrol alongside our police forces and address security challenges successfully. In this way, the Republic of North Macedonia, although not a member state, protects the external border of the European Union, and also contributes to the regional and European security and stability. At the end of the meeting, Ambassador István emphasized that Hungary is fully committed to the enlargement of the Union and strongly supports the start of the country's negotiation process with the European Union.
