Meeting of the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Grand Duchess of Luxemburg, Mr. Jean Asselborn  

Today, the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia had a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Grand Duchess of Luxemburg, Mr. Jean Asselborn. 

At the meeting, the President Xhaferi underlined the open and friendly relations between the two states and underlined that they need to be strengthened and intensified in the future. The President Xhaferi expressed appreciation for the support from Luxemburg to Macedonia as well as to the Region of the Western Balkans in the context of integration in the European Union and NATO. He also underlined the importance of strengthening the parliamentary cooperation with Luxemburg, as well as the need for intensification of the overall cooperation on all levels. The President Xhaferi referred to the preparedness of the state to learn the lessons from the political crisis and the events from 27 April, expressing conviction that the institutions of the Republic of Macedonia have the capacity to provide legal resolution thereof.

During the meeting, the President Xhaferi  underlined that the Republic of Macedonia remains dedicated to achieve its strategic aim – Membership in NATO and the European Union and that he, as a President of the legislative house will contribute in the state’s movement forward, rather than going back to the past.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Grand Duchess of Luxemburg, Mr. Jean Asselborn expressed appreciation and pleasure from the meeting with the President of the Assembly and congratulated the President for the successful leadership of the Assembly. He also underlined that he saw and felt the enthusiasm of the new Government of the Republic of Macedonia and supported the state to continue to move in the selected direction. The Minister Asselborn underlined the importance of the European values, such as the rule of law and freedom of the media, supporting the ratification of the Agreement on Good Neighborly Relations and Cooperation between the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Bulgaria, as a positive step for our state in the direction of strengthening the regional cooperation, which is an important argument for Brussels and EU, expressing hope that the state, strongly and devotionally, will continue the path to the European Union and NATO.

The interlocutors stated that the two sides should make efforts for promotion of the existing good bilateral relations, since they will benefit the citizens of the two states.
