MEETING OF THE PRESIDENT VELJANOSKI AND THE DELEGATION OF THE MONITORING COMMITTEE OF PACE  

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Trajko Veljanoski had a meeting with the Delegation of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe comprised of: Mr. Stefan Schennach, President of the Monitoring Committee, Mr. Robert Walter, Rapporteur for the Post Monitoring Dialogue with the Republic of Macedonia and Mr. Andreas Gross, President of the Socialists Group of PA. 

The discussion referred to the current events in the Republic of Macedonia. The interlocutors exchanged opinions on the boycott by the opposition of the work of the Assembly as an institution with crucial importance in building the democracy and functioning of the society. The Members of the Delegation were interested for the legislation in the Republic of Macedonia referring to the participation of the MPs in the work of the Assembly as well as the issue on seizing the mandates. 

The President Veljanoski underlined that as a lawyer, he always stands for strict respect of rules in the state, but as a President of the Macedonian Parliament leaves space for development of the political dialogue. Also, the President Veljanoski expressed appreciation for the strong condemn by PACE for the boycott of the Parliament by the opposition as a step taken in their political activities. 

At the end of the meeting, the Members of the Delegation expressed hope that the bridges between the ethnic communities are stable and that they hope for positive resolution of the current political situation.
