Meeting of the President Xhaferi and Mr. László Kövér , President of the Hungarian National Assembly  

Today, the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Talat Xhaferi had a meeting with Mr. László Kövér, President of the Hungarian National Assembly, who is the host of the 8th Conference of Speakers of Parliament of the Countries of the Western Balkans. 

The President Xhaferi expressed appreciation for the open and continuous support of Hungary to the Republic of Macedonia in the process of opening accession negotiations as well as the Euro  - Atlantic integration of the Republic of Macedonia and the other states from the Region. Also, Mr. Xhaferi recognized the strong and operational support of Hungary to the Republic of Macedonia in handling the migration wave and the consequences thereof. Hungary, together with the states of the Visegrád Group provides logistic, material and police support in the defence of the outer borders of the European Union. 

Mr. Kövér congratulated the election of Mr. Xhaferi as President of the Assembly and was interested in brief information on the program of the newly elected Government of the Republic of Macedonia and the current activities of the Assembly, as well as the public’s perception on the European progress of the state. He also informed Mr. Xhaferi on the recent Meeting of Committee on Foreign Affairs of the EU Member States and Aspirant States in Budapest, dedicated on the European Integration of the Western Balkan. 

Mr. Xhaferi underlined that in the period to come the focus of his engagement will be on the development of the parliamentary diplomacy, regaining the essential role of the Assembly in the political life of Macedonia and the improvement of the perception of the citizens for the Legislative house. 

The interlocutors shared the conviction and the expectation that the bilateral cooperation between the two Parliaments will be intensified, especially on the level of Parliamentary Groups for Cooperation, which are already established in the two Parliaments. The good parliamentary cooperation, realized through close meetings and exchange of experience in the area of parliamentary work will be the bridge for further affirmation of the excellent bilateral relations between the Republic of Macedonia and Hungary.
