Meeting of the President Xhaferi and Mr. Miroslav Toman, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Republic of Macedonia   

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Talat Xhaferi had a meeting with the Newly Appointed, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Republic of Macedonia. Mr. Miroslav Toman.  

The President Xhaferi welcomed the Ambassador Toman to the Republic of Macedonia and wished him successful and fruitful diplomatic work, expressing hope that the successful cooperation between the two states will continue in the future. Also, the President of the Assembly expressed appreciation for the open and continuous support of the Czech Republic to the Republic of Macedonia in the Euro – Atlantic Process of Integration and the final accession to the European Union and NATO. 

The support of the Czech Republic as well as the one of the other members of the Visegrad Group to the Republic of Macedonia in handling the migrant crisis and the security at the Southern border was underlined as highly appreciated.

Mr. Xhaferi informed Mr. Toman on the efforts of the newly appointed Government of the Republic of Macedonia and the promotion of the neighbourly relations, as well as the activities of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia by the end of the year. He underlined that the Assembly regained its position after the events of 27 April 2017 and continued to normalize the activities. According to Mr. Xhaferi the results of the local elections confirmed the support for the Government and the parliamentary majority for the reforms. 

Ambassador Miroslav Toman emphasised that the overall relations between the two states and the relations between the Governments and Parliaments are on an excellent level and without open issues. He underlined that the Czech Republic remains open supporter of the membership of the Republic of Macedonia in EU and NATO and open for cooperation in this area as well. Informing on the recent elections for Members in the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament, Ambassador Toman underlined that the constitutive Session and the establishment of the Government are expected to take place in near future. Considering that the Parliament of the Czech Republic is bicameral, the Czech Senate’s Committees on European Affairs, Foreign Policy and Security expect cooperation with their counterparts of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia.

The interlocutors agreed that the parliamentary diplomacy is more than needed and that the friendly relations and cooperation between the parliaments should be deepened and promoted through this mechanism. They also stressed the expectation that following the establishment of the Czech Parliament composition, the cooperation between the Chairs of the Committees and parliamentary Groups for Cooperation and exchange of opinions and experience will continue.
