Meeting of the President Xhaferi and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, Mr. Srdjan Darmanovic  

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Talat Xhaferi met the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, Mr. Srdjan Darmanovic in the framework of his one – day work visit to the Republic of Macedonia. The Members of the Parliamentary Group of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia for Cooperation with the Parliament of Montenegro: Ms. Liljana Kuzmanovska, Chair; Mr. Blagojche Trpeski, Ms. Mirsada Emini Asani and Mr. Afrim Gashi, Members attended the Meeting. 

The President Xhaferi expressed appreciation for the meeting with Mr. Darmanovic, as high representative of a state we have no open issues with and with whom we are connected through friendship and traditionally good political, economic and cultural ties, as well as similar foreign and political priorities. He underlined that all opportunities for intensification of the economic cooperation should be seized and upgraded through the legal framework between the two states.

Welcoming the Membership of Montenegro to NATO and the progress in the accession  negotiations, the President of the Assembly expressed conviction that soon the Republic of Macedonia will reach the essential point on its path – the full-fledged Membership in NATO and receiving a date on opening accession negotiations with EU. He informed also, that our priority is to strengthen the communication with our neighbours, to resolve the problems through open dialogue and build bridges of cooperation, based on mutual trust and respect. Also, he informed the Minister on the local elections, which, according to the evaluation of the international observers we in accordance with the international standards.

Minister Darmanovic underlined that he sees the Republic of Macedonia as future member of the NATO Alliance  and expressed conviction that the state will soon open the accession negotiations with EU. He underlined the successful cooperation in the areas of defence and culture and expressed hope that the opening of airline Skopje – Podgorica – Sarajevo will provide possibilities for promotion of the cooperation in the area of tourism.

Mr. Darmanovic stated that the establishment of the joint economic committee shall provide an  additional impetus for more intensive economic cooperation and referred to the importance of the regional cooperation as a key element for stabilization of the Region. In regard with the accession to EU, Mr. Darmanovic stated that it should follow the principle of regatta, according to which, states become members of the Union once the achieve results.

The meeting also underlined the minority of the two states that is exceptionally important factor for the mutual relations and a bridge of connection and friendship.
