PARLIAMENT SPEAKER XHAFERI HOLDS WORKING MEETINGS WITH EU HIGH REPRESENTATIVES

As part of his working visit, the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Talat Xhaferi met with Mrs. Federica Mogherini, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Johannes Hahn, Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy & Enlargement Negotiations and members of the European Parliament, Ivo Vajgl, Eduard Kukan, Alojz Peterle and Knut Fleckenstein. 

EU High Representatives once again welcomed the election of Mr. Talat Xhaferi as President of the Assembly and confirmed the determination of the EU to cooperate with the newly elected Parliament Speaker in the interest of citizens of the Republic of Macedonia. 

The EU representatives underlined their expectation for a swift conclusion of the government formation process where one of the key priorities is the efficient and full implementation of the Urgent Reform Priorities.

They also expect all political parties in the Republic of Macedonia to engage constructively and to remain dedicated to the reform process and EU integration. Parliament Speaker Xhaferi informed interlocutors that he has acted in accordance with his constitutional and procedural obligations and has taken actions to commence the hand-over procedure of the mandate for the formation of a new government. Furthermore, he underlined that within the timeframe foreseen in the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly he will call on the representatives of the parliamentary political parties to agree upon the direction for the future work of the Assembly.

Parliament Speaker Xhaferi confirmed Macedonia’s determination for EU membership and underlined the Assembly’s important role in that process as something he is strongly committed to.
