Parliament Speaker Xhaferi meets H.E. Ambassador of Kingdom of Belgium to the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Francois Bontemps

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Talat Xhaferi held an official meeting today with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Francois Bontemps.

Firstly the Ambassador extended sincere congratulations to Mr. Xhaferi on being elected Parliament Speaker at the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia and wished him success in the execution of this responsible office.

Ambassador Bontemps underlined the further readiness of the Kingdom of Belgium to maintain, develop and foster closer bilateral relations with the Republic of Macedonia at a bilateral level, in Macedonia’s EU integration bid, as well as between the parliaments of the two countries. He voiced his belief and expectation that the country will stabilize itself politically in the upcoming period which will create productive conditions for revitalizing the economic ties, especially in relation to the Belgium investments in this country.

Mister Xhaferi, thanking sincerely for the congratulations, introduced the Ambassador with the latest preparations carried out for tomorrow’s session of parliament when it is expected that a new government will be elected followed by the formation of the working bodies of the Assembly, delegations and parliamentary groups for cooperation with parliaments of different countries, as well as law amendments in context of the local elections scheduled this fall.

Furthermore, he introduced the Ambassador that this composition of parliament will, among other things, form a Parliamentary group for cooperation with the parliament of the Kingdom of Belgium which will help continue the further deepening of closer inter-parliamentary ties.

Interlocutors shared their belief that democracy as an advantage of the civilized world should not be abused in the work of parliament but should rather be seen as a condition which allows for a constructive debate to be held between all political factors in the house of legislation, a place with zero tolerance for any kind of violence. The process of making compromises should not be used as a tool for hindering processes, but as a method of joint work and joint cooperation towards a comprehensive social progress in order to fulfill, above all, the expectations and interests of the citizens.

Voicing their support for further closer and intensified inter-parliamentary cooperation, interlocutors agreed that the established friendly relations between the Republic of Macedonia and the Kingdom of Belgium should continue to be fostered with strong dedication and mutual trust.
