PARLIAMENT SPEAKER XHAFERI MEETS SWISS AMBASSADOR, MS SYBILLE SUTER TEJADA

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Talat Xhaferi, had an official visit today with the Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to the Republic of Macedonia, Ms. Sybille Suter Tejada who congratulated him on being elected President of the Assembly and wished him a successful mandate. She expressed hope for a swift and democratic re-establishement of state institutions after the political crisis, as the next stage in stabilizing the country.

The Ambassador underlined the ongoing readiness of the Swiss Confederation to actively continue with the projects in the Republic of Macedonia, especially with the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia due to its direct financial and expert role in the activities of the Parliamentary Institute. Furthermore, she informed about a new project involving the entire Assembly for which the stages, executors and overall activities thereof will be additionally worked out. 

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Xhaferi, thanked for the assistance and the support extended by the Government and Parliament of the Swiss Confederation to the building and advancement of the democratic capacities of Macedonia, especially in the Assembly and voiced hope that the support will continue in the future. 

The two interlocutors exchanged views and expectations from the deplorable events of 27 April in the Assembly, the current political developments in the Republic of Macedonia, the next steps in terms of forming a new government as an expression of the parliamentary majority, as well as the current legal situation related to calling local elections (in context of ongoing municipal projects with the Swiss government) and the role of the President and the Assembly as a whole in this procedure in accordance with the Constitution and legal provisions.

Firmly believing in future cooperation, especially due to the close relations between the peoples of the two countries that have lasted for decades and that have been established by the large Macedonian Diaspora living, working and actually contributing to the economic and social life of Switzerland, the interlocutors expressed their expectation that the close, amicable and friendly cooperation between the two countries will continue with unimpeded intensity in the upcoming period.
