President of the Assembly, Mr. Talat Xhaferi met with Swedish Ambassador Mr. Mats Steffanson

The president of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Talat Xhaferi met today in an official meeting with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Mats Steffanson. He congratulated him on being elected President of the Assembly and voiced sincere expectation that the political and legislative process in the country will soon be back on track.

The Ambassador underlined the further readiness of the Kingdom of Sweden for close cooperation at a bilateral level, especially between the Parliaments of the two countries and in that line he presented Mr. Xhaferi with an invitation from the Speaker of the Swedish Riksdag to lead a five-member parliamentary delegation to an official visit to the Kingdom of Sweden in the fall which will be the first official visit and will provide a strong incentive to continue with the friendly relations between the two countries.

Mister Xhaferi, sincerely thanking for the invitation, underlined that Sweden is an example of democracy, freedom and high level of parliamentary culture, and with this visit the bilateral relations between the Republic of Macedonia and the Kingdom of Sweden will once again confirm their maturity and intensity. This is especially due to the fact that a large Macedonian diaspora has been living, working and actively contributing to the economic and social life in Sweden for decades and several generations.

The meeting was also used to exchange views on the current political condition in the Republic of Macedonia, on the constitutional obligation of the President of the Republic of Macedonia to grant the mandate for forming the government, the next activities for the Assembly related to that process, whereas Mr. Xhaferi informed on today’s coordination between representatives of parliamentary parties as to local elections.

Expressing support for further and closer inter-parliamentary cooperation, interlocutors agreed that the established friendly relations should be fostered with strong dedication and mutual trust.
