THE PRESIDENT OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA MET WITH THE ITALIAN AMBASSADOR ROMEO
The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Xhaferi today held a meeting with the Italian Ambassador to the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Carlo Romeo. At the beginning of the meeting, the Ambassador Romeo expressed his gratitude to the President of the Assembly, Mr. Xhaferi for the opportunity to exchange opinions and experiences for cooperation and also congratulated the election of Mr. Talat Xhaferi as the President of the Assembly of Republic of Macedonia while underlining that one of the reasons for today's visit is to bring the congratulation letter sent by the President of the Italian Senate.
The President of the Assembly, Mr. Xhaferi informed the Ambassador on the latest developments in the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, related to the establishment of the working committees, Committee on inter-ethnic relations, permanent delegations and parliamentary groups for bilateral cooperation with other Parliaments which will allow the Assembly to work with full functionality and to perform its tasks with responsibility at a national and international level. Among other, he emphasized that the Assembly will be made transparent by opening the sessions to the public with the possibility for the interested citizens to register on the website of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia.
Interlocutors discussed on the current political situation in the country, and about the events of 27th April whereby the Ambassador Romeo underlined that what happened on 27th April is very serious and at the same time represents violation of the democracy and the citizens. The President of the Assembly, Mr. Xhaferi emphasized that the unpleasant events should be left behind and they should serve as a historical memory and a stimulus for the new generations to look forward and to focus on the better mutual future of the country. During the discussion was pointed out that the cooperation and constructive inclusion of the opposition in this period of transition is of a great importance, and also the support of the opposition on the implementation of the reforms that are useful for all the citizens of the Republic of Macedonia is welcome.
In this direction, the President, Mr. Xhaferi underlined the importance of establishing a communication among all the Members of the Parliament and the relevance of respecting and implementing the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly of Republic of Macedonia.
The Ambassador emphasized that Italy, as a country that has always supported the Republic of Macedonia since its declaration of independency, will continuously provide institutional support to the Republic of Macedonia on its aspirations in the path towards the membership in the European Union and NATO.
At the end of the meeting, the President, Mr. Xhaferi expressed gratitude to the Ambassador Romeo for his visit voicing pleasure and willingness for further enhancement of the mutual cooperation.
