WORKING MEETING BETWEEN PRESIDENT XHAFERI AND AMBASSADOR GALLOWAY

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi, had a working meeting today with H.E. Rachel Galloway, Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of North Macedonia.

On this occasion, President Xhaferi expressed pleasure at meeting with the Ambassador again in the new parliamentary composition, in conditions when the whole world is in a sensitive period of global COVID-19 pandemic, due to which the Assembly works in accordance with protocols and recommendations given by the Committee on Contagious Diseases. He briefed the Ambassador on all measures taken by the Assembly to protect its Members and staff from the COVID-19 virus, while regarding the inability of MPs to participate in parliamentary work due to isolation and self-isolation, and given the experiences of other parliaments, he informed that efforts are being made for the Assembly to find a mutually acceptable solution with the opposition for remote work and voting, in order for the legislature to function smoothly.

President Xhaferi underlined that the Republic of North Macedonia, as the newest full-fledged member of NATO, is ready to cooperate with its British counterparts in the future, on an equal footing through the NATO PA, which will contribute to collective stability and global security.

The President also informed about the ongoing parliamentary activities due the end of the year, as well as the legislative proposals that are on the agenda of the parliamentary sessions and the possibilities for their adoption. The interlocutors expressed satisfaction with the successful implementation of the Westminster Foundation's projects in the Assembly, especially with the functioning of the Parliamentary Budget Office Project, which prepares quality budget analyzes for both the parliamentary majority and the opposition.

Regarding the bilateral cooperation between the two countries, the interlocutors expressed hope that it will continue to be upgraded in the future, especially at the level of Parliamentary Cooperation Groups, which were recently established in the Assembly.
